If you live in here in the Philadelphia area and are interested in upgrading your car, truck or SUV with a blind spot monitoring collision avoidance system, we invite you to visit Perzan Auto Radio. Our team of vehicle enhancement experts will work with you to identify the best solution to help prevent accidents and close calls on your next commute to work, shopping trip across town or vacation. Let’s take a look at the technologies we have available to help keep you safe.
What is Blind Spot Monitoring?
The blind spot is defined as the area beside your vehicle that is not visible in your peripheral vision or your side and rearview mirrors. While adjusting the side mirrors on your car outward can help you see objects and vehicles in adjacent lanes, using radar-based sensing technology as pioneered by Volvo back in 2005 provides a fully active second level of protection.
How Our Blind Spot Systems Work
Our blind spot detection solutions use radar sensors mounted behind the rear bumper cover or on the license plate frame to monitor the lanes beside your vehicle for the presence of another car or truck. When a vehicle is detected, a small amber indicator mounted on either side of your dash or in the A-pillars will illuminate.
If you activate your turn signal while someone is beside or just behind you, the system will produce an audible warning through a buzzer mounted under your dash to let you know that it’s not safe to change lanes. As an additional warning, the dash indicators will start to flash. The concealed in-bumper system monitors the area from the B-pillar of your car or SUV rearwards for a distance of approximately 33 feet.
Cross-Traffic Alert Warnings
The safety systems we offer also include a cross-traffic alert mode. As soon as you start to back up, the system monitors as far as 95 feet on either side of the vehicle and will alert you if a person, cyclist or car is approaching. Stationary objects like bollards, curbs and parked cars will not trigger the system.
Active Protection Against Accidents
Unlike camera-based lane monitoring systems, our blind spot solutions provide you with an audible warning when you need to react. This is called an active protection system. A camera system is a good solution, but you need to remember to look at the screen, and your brain needs time to decide if what it sees is a threat or not.
A Safety Solution for Most Vehicles
As mentioned, we have a completely concealed system that mounts behind your bumper cover in the same fashion as factory-installed lane monitoring systems work. From the outside of your car or SUV, the installation is completely invisible. The only requirement is that your vehicle has plastic bumper covers so the radar signal can pass through without obstruction.
If you drive a pickup truck or an older SUV, our license-plate-mounted option provides all the same basic features in a solution that mounts like a license plate frame. This type of detection system requires that the objects be traveling at a different speed than your vehicle to provide a warning.
Expert Installation Services
When you speak with one of our Product Specialists about our blind spot solutions, part of the quotation process will include an inspection of your vehicle to determine what type of sensor solution we should use and where we should mount the warning indicators. Our goal is to make the products we install look as though they’re part of the vehicle and not an afterthought.
